In these “unprecedented times” what questions should you be asking in a job interview? In a post-COVID work world, whether you ‘e-meet’ your potential employer on Zoom or still have the luxury of a face to face interview, asking the right questions will make you the most prepped candidate of 2020. You need to dig deep and discover information that will be critical to your job search.
From entry-level roles to top dog CEO positions, when wrapping up any job interview you will always be asked ‘Do you have any questions?’.
Make sure you have these ready to go at the drop of a hat:
• How has COVID affected the business’s 2020 goals – what areas have seen the most and least impact?
• Has WFH decreased the team’s productivity and what has been put in place to ensure goals are met?
• What would your ideal employee do to delight you in the first 3 months?
• Who are your main competitors, and how has COVID affected them?
• How would you describe your leadership style?
• Is this role an existing position, or has it been newly created?
• What key accomplishments do you want to see a year into this role?
• What does success look like for this business in 1 year and 5 years time?
• What type of person succeeds within this business?
• What are the recruitment timelines for this position, when can I expect to hear back from you?
Businesses have been through a lot of changes, some are thriving whilst others are just pushing through, so it is essential you ask smart and relevant questions. All of the above questions will unlock information to give you the knowledge to make an informed decision as to whether the company and its culture align with your core values.
We know that the recruitment market has been tough over the past few months, but we are seeing businesses hiring again (YAY!), and many of the roles are newly created – high five to those leaders who are finding opportunities to grow!
