Out of sight, out of mind – is this the reason you’re not getting promoted?
I recently spoke with the HR GM of a 300+ person business about the internal growth/development opportunities for their employees.
They were honest in saying that the employees who get promoted are the ones who are frequently present in the office – the ones building relationships, collaborating with peers and making a tangible impact.
Meanwhile, those who primarily WFH? Often overlooked – not because they aren’t doing the work, but because they’re simply not front of mind.
This company doesn’t mandate days in the office. Employees are treated like the adults they are and trusted to choose where they work. However, at the end of the day, the ones who are seen to be doing the work are the ones who are rewarded.
Some may think this isn’t fair, however, it’s the same conversation I’ve been having with many HR Managers and business leaders for quite some time.
So if career growth is your goal, it’s worth considering – are you front of mind… or fading into the background?
