Want better candidates in 2025? Write better job ads.

The first day back after the January long weekend marks what I’m dubbing the ‘Recruitment New Year.’

Business leaders are back at their desks and everyone’s finally ‘circling back’ to action those projects left on pause in 2024.

With the start of ‘Recruitment New Year’, job boards like Seek and LinkedIn will be flooded with roles, and candidates are back on the market, hungry for MORE.

Competition is fierce 🔥

Every year, by March or April, I receive calls from businesses saying, “We’ve gone to market but haven’t had any luck. Can you help?”

So, I check their job ads… and the majority of the time, said ads are uninspiring, generic pieces of text.

So. Beige. 🥱

Your job ad isn’t just a list of duties – it’s an invitation for the right person to visualise themselves in the role.

Make it count. No one ‘excellent’ wants to work for a ‘boring’ business.

Bring your company to life. Talk about your culture, values, and what makes your workplace unique.

✏️ Don’t copy and paste duties from a job description – paint a picture of the purpose and impact of the role.

✏️ Showcase why candidates should join you – flexibility, growth, culture, and opportunities to make a difference.

✏️ Write in the style of your ideal hire – because that’s who you want to connect with.

Yes, writing a standout ad takes time, but it’s out there for a month, and sometimes more. You reap what you sow, so make a commitment to produce something engaging.
